State Parks Near Cincinnati, OH - Beechmont Ford

Sitting right by the confluence of the Licking and Ohio rivers, the city of Cincinnati, OH, is considered the economic and cultural capital of the state, as well as a popular destination among visitors from all over the country. Besides its local attractions, Cincinnati is also a great base to explore the area, and if you are looking for the best places to visit, here are three of our favorite nearby spots.

Caesar Creek State Park

Located about 45 miles northeast of downtown Cincinnati, Caesar Creek State Park is a well-known weekend getaway among residents of the city, offering great opportunities to spend some time in nature. Established in the late 1970s around the shores of an artificial body of water created with the impoundment of Caesar Creek, this place offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor sports and activities.

Caesar Creek State Park covers an area of about 4,700 acres and can be reached in about 45 minutes by car. Some of the most popular recreational activities in this fantastic nature reserve include hiking, mountain biking, wildlife watching, and picnicking. For those interested in the history and nature of the area, the Caesar Creek Nature Center offers exhibits and education programs throughout the year.

Hueston Woods State Park

Covering an area of a little under 3,000 acres, Hueston Woods State Park is a beautiful nature reserve established in 1957 and managed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Sitting around the shores of Acton Lake, this place offers excellent opportunities for hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing, and other recreational activities for visitors of all ages.

Designated a National Natural Landmark in the late 1960s, Hueston Woods State Park boasts some of the most beautiful landscapes in the region, with its picturesque lake surrounded by mountain ranges and thick forests. This nature reserve is also known for featuring some of the largest collections of fossilized remains from ancient marine animals in the region. Getting here from downtown Cincinnati takes about one hour by car along route US-27.

East Fork State Park

Another public recreation area featuring rolling hills, open meadows, and a beautiful lake, East Fork State Park is a great spot for picnicking, swimming, hiking, and simply enjoying some time away from the urban bustle. Established around the shores of William H. Harsha Lake, this state park spans an area of about 4,900 acres and is located just 25 miles east of downtown Cincinnati.
