2023 Ford Explorer
The Ford Explorer is a three-row SUV with a spacious interior, several powertrain options, and a more athletic-looking exterior than many other crossovers. This vehicle comes in many trim levels, including a high-performance model. The only update for the 2023 model year is adding a new exterior color called Jewel Red Metallic. Trim Levels (Exterior)
The base 2023 Ford Explorer trim has 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and a power liftgate. Stepping up to the XLT trim adds heated exterior mirrors and roof rails. The ST-Line model adds to the XLT trim with 20-inch alloy wheels, a black grille, and black exterior trim.
Step up to the Timberline trim for underbody skid plates, front tow hooks, and an off-road suspension, or the Limited trim for 20-inch alloy wheels, power-folding exterior mirrors, and chrome exterior trim. The high-performance ST trim has quad exhaust outlets and a sport-tuned suspension. The King Ranch trim has a hands-free liftgate, and the Platinum trim adds 21-inch wheels.
Engine (Power)
The entry-level powertrain for the 2023 Ford Explorer is a 2.3-liter four-cylinder gas engine with 300 horsepower. A 3.0-liter turbo V-6 engine is available and will get you 400 horsepower. You can also opt for the hybrid powertrain with a 3.3-liter V-6 engine and electric motor that puts out 318 horsepower. Every model and powertrain use a 10-speed automatic transmission, and all but the Timberline trim come standard with rear-wheel drive and offer all-wheel drive as an option. The Timberline trim comes standard with all-wheel drive.
Performance
Any of the powertrains provide the 2023 Ford Explorer with plenty of power. Opting for the base engine can propel the SUV to 60 mph in about six seconds, while the twin-turbo V-6 engine will get you there much quicker. The ride in any of the Ford Explorer trim vehicles is smooth and comfortable, and it is easy to handle whether you're on the highway or in a parking lot. When equipped, this vehicle can tow up to 5,600 pounds.
Interior
The 2023 Ford Explorer has three rows of seats and room for up to seven people. This vehicle comes standard with cloth upholstery and a power-adjustable driver's seat, but you can get leather upholstery in the higher trims. Getting to the third row is easy with a one-touch function that moves the second-row seats out of the way, and power-folding third-row seats are available.
Technology features include a standard 8-inch touchscreen with a 10.1-inch touchscreen for the top two trims. You can also get Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless charging, navigation, and an upgraded stereo system.
Safety Features
Every 2023 Ford Explorer comes with Ford Co-Pilot360. This bundle of safety systems includes a forward collision warning system with mitigation, automatic high-beam headlights, a blind-spot warning system, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure mitigation. Drivers will also appreciate trailer sway damping and rear parking sensors.
The XLT trim and above offer Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and evasive steering assist. A 360-degree surround-view camera system comes in higher trims, and you can also get front parking sensors.
